Minna Canth day in Finland

I like these flag-days in Finland when you can see the Finnish flag hanging at many houses on each street. Usually this is connected to something cultural or historical. Today it is because we have the Minna Canth-day.

Minna Canth came from a  Swedish-Finnish family but wrote mostly in Finnish. She lived in the 19th century. (She used to live also in the city where I used to live in Finland before Helsinki, in Kuopio, and I think I saw the house where she used to live.)
She was a writer of Finnish naturalism-realism, her political works were mostly connected to the rights of women. Thanks to her achievements in Finland women received a right to own property and to their own salary (yes, in those times if you went to work you had to give your salary to your husband lol). She was also contributing and fighting for the right to education of women.

Minna Canth

As a role model she was not only smart and talented, but she gave life to 7 (!) children who she managed to raise alone after her husband passed away.

My conclusion: it is possible for a woman to have personality, brain and a man who loves her at the same time, And you can have a great professional career if you want to have children. See the example above...This woman lived more than 100 years ago, so what are we talking about that women should decide if they want to have career or be a good mother, and that if you are smart it scares men off? There is hope people :D.
