Joan Didion

I heard about Joan Didion first thanks to an article in British VOGUE. I really like how she plays with words ( meaning the rhythm of words here) and also what she writes about. After reading more and more from her I started to like her personality a lot. She is a sort of "silent rebel"- role model for me.

Here are some things which she said and are really close to my heart:

"I used to tell John my dreams, not to understand them but to get rid of them, clear my mind for the day."- this is a very familiar feeling to me. I am sure it is a familiar feeling to you as well. There is nothing better than telling about nightmares or strange dreams to people we love- might it be our actual love, or people close to us like friends or family.

"I had believed in the logic of popular songs. I had looked for the silver lining. I had walked on through the storm".

"Only the survivors of death are truly left alone"- this reads in two meanings to me, and both can be true.

"I was thinking as small children think, as if my thoughts or wishes had the power to reverse the narrative, to change the outcome."

"I wake and feel the fell of dark, not day. And I have asked to be where no storms come."

"the revelation that the dream was teaching the dreamers how to live"-life...

""Death" he wrote so omnipresent in the past that it was familiar, would be effaced, would disappear. It would become shameful and forbidden."-I agree with it to full extent. I wish that we could still live in a culture where everything would have its place from birth to death, and where grief and mourning would have its place too not just joy, happiness and success. When I read about ancient civilizations or tribes in distant cultures I am really "jealous" that they had/still have their beautiful ceremonies celebrating love, birth, death and other major stages in one person`s life.
