The red string of fate

After lot of travelling lately I have spent the whole day today lying on the sofa and relaxing. These are the times when I usually hear something interesting by random. My friend Mel just told me about the "red string of fate" which is a belief in Asian culture.

This myth exists both in China and Japan. According to the myth the gods tie a red cord around the ankles of those who are supposed to meet one an other in a certain situation or help each other in a certain way. Often in Japanese culture it is thought to be tied around the little finger.

The magical cord may stretch or tangle, but never break. This myth is similar to the Western concept of soul mates.
