Halkakas

I went to this place in December for the first time. The portions are quite big and tasty. You find here mainly fish-dishes. I can recommend the cat fish-gyros, because I tried it and it was super delicious. Halkakas is in walking distance from the Market Hall, you can connect your visit to the restaurant with the typical souvenir shopping.

This brand started actually from my home region (West-Hungary). The founder was first selling home produced diary products by himself: milk, home made yoghurts, home made cheese etc. Then big food chains were lining up as re-sellers and finally he opened his own places at different points of Budapest. A big success story, and really good food quality celebrating the Hungarian food culture with its home made products. Perfect place to have breakfast or snacks. For us Hungarians some dishes are legendary, because we used to eat them at our grandparents place, and now we see them reincarnated with a traditional taste, but yet prepared in a modern 21st century way.

When I was here the last time I ate milk rice with home made raspberry jam, chocolate snail (no real snails included, it is a traditional Hungarian breakfast cookie) and an egg cream sandwich, and drunk a latte to it. The milk rice was the best milk rice ever what I have eaten so far in my life.

Ecocafe (Andrássy út)

This is a modern eco-friendly cafe in a historical building of the Andrássy street in the inner city of Budapest. The design reminds me of Scandinavia. If you visit Budapest as a tourist this might be a place where you can connect with oter foreigners and get to know their opinion and insider tips about the city.
